Botox Cosmetic ® is a purified protein that temporarily inactivates the specific muscles that produce wrinkles. Just a few days after the injection, patients will notice the smoothing effect; wrinkles will diminish dramatically or disappear altogether. Botox can also be used to reduce hyperhydrosis and headache severity. Most people are candidates for Botox, although patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have a neurological condition may not be eligible and should consult their doctor.

Botox is introduced directly to the desired area to target such things as crow's feet, frown and laugh lines and forehead wrinkles. It can also improve mouth contours, preventing the gums from being shown during a smile. If used in the lower eyebrow or the corners of the mouth, Botox can be a less invasive substitute to a brow or lip lift.

Results of Botox typically last from three to six months, with follow up treatments becoming possible after that. Complications involved in the upper eyelid or frown line treatments rarely occur and are only temporary.
